The vast majority of the bodies of water in Iceland originate from the country's most famous longtime residents: glaciers. These massive bodies of ice have shaped the landscape of Iceland for centuries, carving their way through valleys and mountains and leaving behind a network of rivers that bless visitors with the opportunity to witness the natural processes still occurring today.
As water flows through these river systems, it often takes on a yellow colour. This can be attributed to a variety of factors, including dissolved organic matter like tannins which are commonly found in wetlands and peat bogs. Additionally, the presence of minerals and sediments such as iron or manganese can contribute to the yellow colour of water. Despite this discoloration, Iceland's river systems offer a deeper insight into both the country's natural history and its geological future
